Cleaning a refrigerator probably ranks up there on going to the dentist for most people, unless you’re weird like me and actually enjoy going to the dentist. However, cleaning a refrigerator ranks as one of my least favorite things. I’d actually prefer to fold laundry.
Through the years, I’ve tried system over system to clean the refrigerator clean and it’s always been a challenge. While it’s something that not going away, there are a some things that can be done to ease the pain.
- Use Clear Storage Bins: The Container Store has a plethora of clear bins for the refrigerator and freezer. They’re amazing. Use them to group similar items together. If something spills, it’s much easier to clean out the bin than an entire shelf in a fridge.
- Use Clear Tupperware & Labels: Clear tupperware allows you to see what’s in there. I also recommend using labels, chalk labels are best because of their versatility. Write the date on the container so you know how long it’s been in there. I do like writing on the label what’s in there too, looks more organized 🙂
- Clean a Shelf a Week: Rather than dreading the task of cleaning the entire refrigerator, I’ve found it’s much easier to wipe down a shelf a week vs the whole refrigerator. Plus, you won’t get the refrigerator scold, the dreaded beeps. One of the best times to do it is before you put away food from a grocery store. There’s typically not much in there so it makes it’s easier.
These three easy tips go a long way and make it much easier to manage the refrigerator. You’re refrigerator will consistently be clean and you won’t dread having to clean the entire thing.
