Pantry organization can be a daunting task and finding time to do it as a working mom can be a challenge but it can be done. Having an organized pantry will bring calmness to your home, making lunches will be much easier, you’ll know what you have and want you need.
Here are four easy steps to get your pantry organized:
1. Find storage bins/baskets. Target, Walmart, The Container Store, Bed Bath & Beyond, they all have them, even Home Goods. If you have room to stack bins, start there because it allows you to create more space. After you find the storage bins you like, you’ll need to decide what sizes you will need and if they will fit in the pantry. It’s a bit of a guessing game but if you can visualize what it’ll look like, it will give you a better idea of how many are needed.
2. Empty Pantry. Clear out all of the food items and then take the purchased storage bins and place them in the pantry. Configure the pantry with the storage bins first before putting food items in there. This will give you a good visual of how it will look first and be easier to decide what goes where.
3. Organize items by category. Keep your grocery store in mind. When you shop in the produce aisle, all of the produce is there, same with the pasta aisle, etc. Keep the topics pretty broad so they are easy to find. It can be tougher to organize items when they are too detailed because you’ll be stuck with where to put the item and then it ends up in a different category. Before you know it, your organized pantry has become unorganized because of too many categories.
4. Label the containers/baskets. Washi tape is a great way to decorate a label bin because you can put a label on top of it. Labeling baskets requires a little bit more work because most of the baskets don’t come with label spaces so you’ll have to create your own, which is very easy. To create your own label all you need is string and labels, which can be found at Michaels.
Having an organized pantry allows to to see what you have and what you don’t have. You’ll save money by knowing what’s in there, you’ll save time by not having to search for items. You’ll be happy when you open up your pantry when it’s organized, kind of like opening up your closet 🙂 If you need help finding baskets and bins, you can check out the ones I recommend here.
