Mindset Matters

I listened to a podcast with David Goggins where he said something that really resonated with me.  He said once you leave your house, the war starts.  That you need to build your amour every morning.

It’s really true, the world isn’t going to be on your side and you have to be strong.  Starting the morning off with the right mindset builds your amour and changes everything.

Organizing isn’t something that is fun for many people, they find it to be an annoying task.  This list of organizing quotes will help you change your mindset and inspire you to get organized.

If you love quotes, you are likely a motivated person and someone who is always striving to be better.  Words have a powerful impact on all of us.  Whether it’s a conversation with a spouse, reading a book, or listening to a podcast, you are reading or listening to words.  They either help us improve or move us in a different direction.

For years, I’ve heard from successful people about journaling and how it’s helped them.  As someone who is always trying to be better, I never got it until I read The Miracle Morning.

This book was a game changer.  It gave me direction on how to live and have a better morning.  I finally understood the importance of journaling.  I ended up using The Miracle Morning Journal for an entire year.

10 Amazing Organizing Quotes

  1. If you’ve had something for 6 months and it’s still not repaired, it’s clutter. – Gretchen Rubin

    • There’s so much truth to this quote.  If you haven’t fixed it by now, it’s not going to happen.  Get rid of it.
  2. Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful. – William Morris

    • We spend a lot of time in our homes.  They should bring us joy, not stress.  Keep what makes you happy.
  3. With organization comes empowerment. – Lynda Peterson

    • Think of the last time you organized something and how you felt afterward, you were unstoppable.  When we are organized we feel good about ourselves and put forth our best selves.
  4. It’s not a good deal if you don’t need it. – Unknown

    • This is true on so many levels.  As someone who loves a good bargain, not buying it is hard because it makes me feel like I’m winning.  The truth is though when you get home and don’t have anywhere to put it, it just becomes clutter.
  5. Clean and organizing are a practice, not a project. -Meagan Francis

    • Every organized space started out as a project.  Keeping it that way becomes a practice.  It’s a lifestyle.
  6. Nobody ever said “I regret organizing my house.” – Alejandra

    • True story.  I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t feel better after they’ve organized.  It’s a rewarding feeling and stress is out the door.
  7. Stop waiting for the perfect time to get organized. Take this moment and make some progress. – Heidi Leonard

    • Perfection is overrated, progress is what matters.  It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
  8. If you want to improve your life immediately, clean out a closet.  Often what we hold onto holds us back. –  Cheryl Richardson

    • Letting go is hard.  Freedom comes when we get rid of things that no longer serve us.
  9. The secret of getting ahead is getting started. – Mark Twain
    • Starting is often the hardest part.  When you start, you’ve already made progress.
  10. You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. – James Clear

    • With good organizing systems in place, you’re more likely to stay organized.

Personal View of Journaling

The thought of journaling honestly sounded like an annoying task to be completely honest.  I had always viewed journaling as something that was going to take forever, there was no way I could journal quickly.

While I don’t use the journal anymore, I highly recommend starting there if the thought of journaling sounds dreadful because this journal will show you that it literally takes minutes.

If you’ve never journaled before, start out with a physical journal.  Seeing the physical presence of a journal will help make this become a habit.  Habits are the key to success.  It’s much easier to clear out a reminder on your smartphone than to ignore a journal.

Make sure to use a pen you love, I mean really love.  Love it so much that the thought of losing it frightens you.  Now, this sounds extreme however you are not going to enjoy journaling if you don’t love the pen you are using.  Use the same pen every time, buy multiples of the same pen and the same color.  This will help with the fluidity of writing.

In addition to using a pen you love, use some highlighters to highlight your favorite text.  When you journal, you’ll go back and read how far you’ve come.  It’s easier to see important text with a highlighter.

I’ve used the G-2 Pilot pens for about a year now and have fallen in love with them.  I found this mega pack at Costco and have been hooked, although I’m hooked on everything that is basically sold at Costco 🙂

Sharpie highlighters are the ones I’ve used for years.  We’re talking like junior high years.  I’ve steered away from Sharpie a time or two when the budget was tight but ended up regretting it every time so I just stick with Sharpie.
