If you’re tired of opening your closet and seeing a chaotic mess of clothes, shoes, and accessories, it may be time for a serious closet overhaul. The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune on expensive closet organizers to get the job done. With a little creativity, these 10 cleaver diy closet organizers can transform your closet into a tidy oasis that maximizes your space and makes it easy to find what you need.

From simple hanging organizers to custom shelving solutions, these ideas will help you get your closet in order and keep it that way for good. So, let’s get started and say goodbye to cluttered closets once and for all!

Benefits of Having an Organized Closet

Before we dive into the DIY closet organizers, let’s take a closer look at why having an organized closet is so important. First and foremost, an organized closet can save you time. When you know where everything is, you don’t have to spend hours digging through piles of clothes to find what you need. This can be especially helpful on busy mornings when you’re trying to get ready for work or school.

An organized closet can also reduce stress and improve your mood. Clutter and chaos can make you feel overwhelmed and anxious, while a clean and tidy space can have the opposite effect. When you open your closet to find everything neatly arranged, you’ll feel a sense of calm and control.

Finally, an organized closet can even save you money. When you can see everything you own, you’ll be less likely to buy duplicates or forget about items you already have. Plus, you may discover hidden gems in your closet that you forgot about, giving you the opportunity to wear them again and get more use out of your wardrobe.

Types of Closet Organizers

There are many different types of closet organizers to choose from, depending on your needs and preferences. Here are a few of the most common types:

– Shelving units: These are ideal for storing folded clothes, shoes, and accessories. They can be standalone units or installed directly on the closet wall.

– Shoe racks: These are designed specifically for storing shoes, and come in a variety of sizes and styles.

– Drawer organizers: These can be used to keep small items like socks, underwear, and jewelry organized within a larger drawer.

– Specialty organizers: These are designed for specific items like ties, belts, scarves, and purses.

Now that you know the different types of closet organizers, let’s take a look at some DIY ideas you can try at home.

DIY Closet Organizer Ideas

1. New Closet System

It may be time to upgrade your closet with an entire new system.  Two systems we have used and recommend is Elfa and IKEA Boaxel.  Both systems allow you to add more shelves and drawers optimizing space in your closet. Deciding on which system will come down to your budget and dimensions of your closet.

3. Stackable Shoe Bins

Our next favorite product for the closet is these stackable shoe bins.  These optimize space and make it easy to access your shoes and see what you have.  There are a variety of ways to use these storage bins.

– Store 3 pairs of flip flips together in one compartment.

– Take a pair of flats and store them in one section.

– Use one compartment for a pair of sneakers.

– Store high heels on the top row with one shoe forward and one backwards.

There is a short bin and tall bin (for heels) that allow you to customize it to fit your needs.

4. Jewelry Organizer

Jewelry can be tough to keep organized, but with the right organizers it can be effortless. There are two ways to store jewelry.  One is to use organizers that can be displayed, the other is to use stackable organizers for the drawer or dresser.

– Displayed jewelry works best if you want to see it.

– Stackable organizers are best if you want it stored away.

5. Shelf Divider

Clothes on shelves easily become messy, things are falling over and there’s no order and structure.  With the help of a shelf divider, shelves can stay neat and tidy.

– Sweatshirts can sit 3 high before things become sloppy.

– Attach the rings to the bottom of the wooden hanger, spacing them evenly apart.

– Hang the hanger in your closet and use the rings to hang your scarves.

You can customize this organizer by painting or decorating the hanger, or by using different types of rings or ribbon.

6. Drawer Dividers

Dividers allow you to divide the available space in a drawer into smaller sections, which helps you make the most efficient use of the entire drawer area. Without dividers, items can become jumbled together, wasting valuable space.

-Keep socks, underwear, office supplies or utensils neatly contained with drawer dividers.

-Preventing items from mixing or shifting: Dividers act as barriers, preventing items from mixing or shifting around within a drawer. This helps to keep items neatly arranged and prevents them from becoming tangled or disorganized over time. It also makes it easier to find and access specific items without having to search through a cluttered drawer.

-Enhancing visibility and accessibility: With dividers in place, each item has its designated spot, making it easier to see and access what you need quickly. Instead of digging through a messy pile, you can easily locate and retrieve the desired item from its designated compartment.

7. Handbag Hangers

Handbag hangers, also known as purse hooks or handbag hooks, are small devices designed to hang your handbag or purse from a table, countertop, or other surfaces.   These are great for the closet as it makes use of hanging space not being utilized while keeping them accessible.

8. Clutch Organizer

Small clutches and purses often get lost in the mix due to their size.  A clutch organizer allows you to display your clutches neatly, making them visible and adding a stylish element to your closet. This makes it easier to select the clutch that complements your outfit or occasion without the need to rummage through a cluttered space.

-Small handbags fit comfortably in one compartment.

-Depending on the size of the clutch, two can fit into one compartment.
