GARAGE ORGANIZATION IDEAS
#1: Use The Wall
There are number of garage organization ideas and the common theme you’ll see with many of the images shown is to use the wall. It is the most underutilized, use it.
From yard tools to cornhole boards there is a lot of big and bulky storage in the garage and getting those items on the wall and off the floor is an absolute game changer.
Putting items on the wall allows you to see everything, it gives you a great visual, allowing you to find what you need with ease. This is why I’m obsessed with it yes obsessed with it.
There are a handful of products out there that you can use to organize the garage. Here are a few of my favorites:
This solution has a variety of hooks available to store items from yard tools to sports equipment to chairs. The hooks are adjustable and allow you to move them to the desired location to optimize space.

Corn hole boards are big and bulky. These wall-mount storage holders get them off the ground and make them easy to store.
The Ultrawall rack is another wall track system that can be used to organize yard tools, bikes, and outdoor gear.
#2: Use Shelves
Shelves are a beautiful thing, it’s magic to a space, and more space automatically appears. The first recommendation for shelves is to use them for the wall if possible.
Adding shelves to the wall optimizes every inch, leaving no space left behind.
Elfa from the Container Store is our number one solution for the garage for many reasons. One, the shelving is adjustable allowing you to tailor it to your needs. The other reason we love Elfa is there are options to incorporate drawers into the system giving you better storage solutions.
This heavy-duty shelving system works great for adding additional shelves on a budget.
Closetmaid is an alternative to Elfa. There aren’t as many customization options but it’s a good alternative.
If wall shelves are not what you’re looking for or in the budget, freestanding shelves are a great solution.
Here are the recommendations for freestanding shelves
#3: Use Storage Bins
There are a handful of storage bins out there, so it’s important to choose the right ones for the items that you have. There are two types of bin solutions:
-
Bins with lids
-
Bins without lids
You need to think about what works best for you. Bins with lids keep items safely stored in the garage and prevent things from getting dusty or dirty. Holiday decor, camping gear, or anything you want to be protected should be stored in bins with lids.
Bins without lids allow items to be accessed quickly and easily storage away, they are ergonomically friendly. Shoes, sports equipment, and cleaning supplies are categories that work well with bins without lids.
Determining which open bins to use depends on a few things: dimensions and budget.
You have to know the amount of space you are working on to get the right solution in place. There’s nothing more frustrating than buying containers only for them not not fit.
The second factor that comes into play is budget. There are bins out there as low as $5 a piece up to $28 a piece, knowing what you want to spend will filter out the options.
Another factor to consider with storage bins is whether you want clear or solid bins.
Clear or opaque containers allow you to see the contents in there which gives you a better visual of what you have. Solid bins conceal the items and are visually more pleasing.
Open Bins
These clear storage bins work great budget-friendly solution. From kids’ toys to gardening tools, these bins can store a variety of items. With this bin being 9.5″ high it creates more storage space and keeps items contained.
With several different sizes available, these utility bins are a great option for storage in the garage. Clear dividers for these bins keep items in place and allow multiple categories to be stored in one bin.
These bins have a tiered shelf. This shelf stores items at a higher level, giving them better visibility.
Closed Bins
These storage containers are perfect for any type of climate regardless of where you live keeping all the contents preserved.
This bin is a great option if you don’t want clear bins and want a consistent look and feel.
With any bin, it’s important to label. It keeps things going back to the right places and eliminates the guessing game of where things should go.
