Christmas, Back-to-school, and Summer vacations are all just a few examples of when things become extremely busy.  The house seems to get messier, things are easily forgotten, and the sink is full of dishes.  Christmas is usually the most stressful for our household because our daughter’s birthday is the same month.

If you’ve ever planned a birthday party and Christmas in the same month, you know that overwhelming feeling I’m talking about.  Whenever I’m overwhelmed or feeling unorganized, there’s one common thing I do that is an immediate stress reliever, write out a plan.

We live in such a tech world now that using a pen is rare these days but it is one of the most effective ways to get organized.  Here’s why, there’s a relationship between a pen and paper, it allows you to effectively gather all your thoughts and organize them to your liking.

Using an app or even a stylist with a tablet doesn’t have the same effect. You know that feeling with you get a handwritten note in the mail?  That’s the same type of feeling when you write out your plan.

Printables are a great guide to organization.  They help you keep all the important details together.  You can really have a printable for almost anything but using too many printables can be overkill and then your brain goes into over-organizing mode.

If you don’t use a planner, print out a calendar to keep your schedule organized.  Whether it be monthly, weekly, or daily find what works best for you and stick with it.  I like using a monthly and weekly calendar.  The monthly calendar allows me to view the entire month and the weekly calendar allows me to view the week with my ‘To Do’ lists.

Monthly Budget

There is no better way to control your money than with a plan.  Write down how much income you have coming in for the month. Then figure out what your fixed and variable expenses are.  The fixed are easier because you know what they will be every month. The variable expenses are a bit trickier because it can be a guessing game.

Over time, you will get better at it.  Making a budget should be one of your top tasks at the beginning of each month.  Budgeting is not glamorous but you’ll feel better once you’ve done it.  It’s like brushing your teeth before going to bed, no one really likes doing it but the feeling afterward is amazing.

Account Information

If you do any type of banking online, paying bills online, shopping, etc.  There is a good chance you have to have an account with a username and password and you probably have a lot of them, so many that it’s overwhelming at times.

Having your password reset is straight-up annoying, using a password app freaks you out because who knows who could hack into it, or worse yet, you lose your phone.  Keeping all of your account information in one place will keep you organized and stress-free.

Goal Planning

Unwritten goals have no meaning.  You’re not able to hold yourself accountable to what you want to achieve and you have no plan to get there.  Take the time to write out your goals.

Once that is down, make an action plan.  With no action plan, it’s hard to achieve them.  Most people like to win and succeed, they do so by making a plan and working your plan.  You might have to make modifications to your goals and action steps but that’s okay, it’s starting that is the hard part, so just go do it!

Important Dates

No one likes missing an important date, we’ve all done it and it’s not a fun feeling when you realize you forgot someone’s birthday. Seeing the important dates for the entire year will make it easier to plan and remember when you need to get a gift.

Home Projects

It’s the end of the year and you had all of these glorious plans to complete your fabulous list of home projects and not one was completed, been there a time or two?  Guilty as charged over here.  Writing out your home project lists for the year allows you to remember them and budget for them.  Money trees aren’t growing in most people’s backyards and home projects do come at a price.

Dog Walk Tracker

If you have a family and a four-legged member, chances are their walks have taken a back seat.  You are so busy running around the kids that when you get home, the last thing you want to do is walk the dog.  Using a printable to track when they received their last walk will act as a motivator because you know exactly when the last walk was and the guilt will take over that they need to get out.

Gathering your best thoughts or information on paper will keep you organized and more productive.

Household Binder

Using free printables not only gets you organized easily but also creates your household binder.  You’ll want to keep all the printables together in the same place so you can access them quickly and easily.

You’ll need three items:

Folder tabs

Getting all of your important information on paper clears your head and helps you find what you need immediately.  Download the organizing printables, fill out the information, and keep them all together in a binder so you can find them.
