The Importance of Bathroom Organization

The importance of bathroom organization extends beyond mere aesthetics; it directly influences daily routines and overall well-being. A well-organized bathroom promotes efficiency, allowing for easy access to essentials during morning and evening routines.

It reduces stress by minimizing clutter and creating a serene environment. Additionally, organized bathroom spaces contribute to hygiene, as it becomes simpler to keep surfaces clean and maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

Ultimately, the investment in bathroom organization is an investment in streamlining routines, enhancing comfort, and fostering a more pleasant start and end to each day.

Assessing Your Bathroom Space

To assess your bathroom space effectively, start by evaluating the available storage areas, such as cabinets, shelves, and countertops.

Take note of the items you use daily and those that can be stored elsewhere. Consider the layout to identify unused or underutilized spaces.

Assess the functionality of existing storage solutions and identify areas that require improvement. Understanding the dimensions and layout of your bathroom allows you to plan for efficient storage, making it easier to customize organizational solutions that suit your specific needs and enhance the overall functionality of the space.

HOW TO ORGANIZE A BATHROOM

1. Empty the Cabinet Drawers and Shelves

Take out all of the products you have in the bathroom and put them all together in one big pile.  This includes all the bathrooms.  We’re doing the bathrooms all at the same time to save you time.  By doing this, you will be able to organize each bathroom meticulously with the right products.

2. Sort The Piles Into Categories

Once you have all the products together, sort them into categories.

Here are some categories to help you organize:

  • Hair Products (Shampoo, Conditioner, Styling Products)
  • Hair Tools (Brushes, Blowdryer, Curling Iron)
  • Body (Wash, Lotion)
  • Teeth (Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Floss, Mouthwash)
  • Nail Care (Clippers, Nail Polish, etc)
  • Eye Care (Glasses, Contacts)

3. Toss What You Don’t Need

It’s time to purge.  If you have any samples get rid of them, chances are you’ve had them for over a year.  If you haven’t used them now, you’re not going to use them.

4. Clean Cabinet Drawers and Mirrors

Before you start assembling your bathroom back together, clean it.  If you have a mirror that opens up, wipe down the shelving on the inside.

5. Measure The Space

You want to have exact dimensions for that space to see if the organizers you are looking at will fit there.  This is an important step you don’t want to skip.

It’ll save you time from making a trip back to the store to make a return.  There have been too many times when I haven’t measured the space and the product doesn’t fit.  Nothing is more discouraging than when you’re in the middle of a project, it slows down your momentum.

Many bathrooms have under-the-sink space with piping, be sure to take this into account when measuring.

6. Assemble Your Space

There are a variety of ways you can organize your space.  It all depends on what you use frequently and the size of the items.  If you have kids, this will play a factor in where things go because you don’t want them getting into it.

If you have cabinets in your bathroom, use bins to get them organized.  White and clear bins are one of my favorites to use because they give your bathroom a clean, organized feel.

For any drawers that you have, use drawer organizers.  This will help keep all your products organized and prevent them from rolling around in the drawer.

7. Label

The second to last step in organizing is labeling.  This step is really important, it will help you identify what you need quickly.  Having a drawer that is organized or a vanity organizer with labels on it will speed up your morning.

If you are using bins adding a label will be easy.  With plastic bins, use adhesive label tape and write on the label with a Sharpie oil-based marker.  If you are using a wicker bin, use the bin clip label recommended below.

The drawer organizers will be the hardest part to label because of their depth.  I suggest putting the label on the back edge of the drawer organizer.  I’ve seen some organizers have a label on the bottom of the drawer but I don’t recommend this because it’s hard to see.

ORGANIZE A BATHROOM MAINTENANCE TIPS

The last step is maintaining your organized space. Put your make-up back and brushes where they belong.  Your space is going to evolve, make changes when you need to.

You’re not the same person you were a year ago, things change.  New products come out and you try new things, make the necessary adjustments when that happens.

How Long Will This Take

It will depend on the size of your bathrooms and how many products you have but I’ve found the bathroom to be one of the quicker projects to organize.  Plan to spend 3-6 hours.  Always give yourself more time than you think.  Grab a timer and play some of your favorite tunes, it will help keep you motivated.

  • Use hooks to hang hair styling tools.  Put them on the inside of the vanity on the SIDE wall (not on the door, they will bang when you open and close the door)
  • If you have open shelves, use wicker baskets for storage with labels.  You can store products or towels here.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT BATHROOM ORGANIZERS AND ACCESSORIES

Choosing the right bathroom organizers and accessories is crucial for creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing space.  Opt for accessories that match your decor style, adding a touch of cohesion to the space. By thoughtfully selecting organizers and accessories, you set yourself up for long-term success.

The organized bathroom becomes a haven of order and functionality, making each visit a more pleasant experience. With thoughtful planning and strategic solutions, the goal of an organized bathroom is not only achievable but also enhances the overall well-being and aesthetics of your home.
